Children’s Dentistry
Helping Little Smiles!
One in three Australian children develops cavities in their baby teeth by age 5-6 years old. Concerningly, a significant number of children require emergency hospitalisation. An early dental visit can go a long way in preventing such hospitalisation.
That’s why we like to see kids young as possible for early dental check-ups to help identify dental problems promptly and manage them in a timely manner.
First dental visit - a memorable milestone!
Just like a first haircut or their first day at school, take photos and have the little ones draw about it. We love it.
What to Expect on the First Visit?
- Seek to create a playful and fun visit
- Having a ride in the dental chair like “Riding on a magic carpet”
- Examine the teeth by “counting the teeth” or letting them brush their teeth.
- Discussing good oral habits
- Establishing a dental home
Early preventive care:
- Daily brushing with toothpaste is crucial in preventing decay in kids
- Professional fluoride varnish application
A twice-a-year application of specialised varnish by the dental team reduces decay occurrence by almost half in baby teeth.
- Fissure sealants
- SDF Application
Dental caries commonly occurs in the grooves of the back teeth. Deep grooves are easy spots for food to remain for days and are difficult for the toothbrush bristles to reach. These back teeth are more at risk when they erupt. Thus, placing a fissure sealant coating in the grooves of these teeth helps protect the back teeth.
SDF liquid can be painted on tooth decay to stop it from progressing into a large hole if detected early.
